Filling the land hole or levelling it can take up days because it is so hard to do. Making one thing exactly levelled requires a lot of concentration and focal point. The way how land is levelled or filled up is by the cut and fill calculations. This is a popular method used by builders and construction workers and it the easiest of them all.

It is said by many people that the houses built are not secure on land where excavation and embankment has been done. Though, those homes are commonly situated in areas where there is a cliff. Hence, it adds more danger and fear of the house or cliff collapsing. It can also end up in a disaster due to certain weather conditions.

The different methods how this procedure is done

There are different ways how a land can be cut and filled. The most common one is known as the cross-section method. This method is done by placing crosses on the land that is higher and lower than an average land should be. The land which exceeds is marked with a red colour and the other is marked with blue. This usually helps the construction workers recognize which land is above or lower. After this is done, the volume is taken of both the lands and it is then multiplied by the average. When the volume is obtained, the final cut and fill values are taken by summing all of them together.

The second most common method is the grid. As the name suggests, it involves plotting a grid onto the project. The first step that is done in this method is calculating the average cut or fill of each grid. Then the volume is taken out by multiplying the depth by the cell area of the grid. The total volume is obtained by adding them all together which then finally gives you the value of how much cut and fill should be done.

Why cut and fill is used?

The main goal of cut and fill is to have a levelled land by using the already existing materials on earth. The excess matter of land is placed in an area which needs filling. It saves more energy and extra material because the unwanted land is used to fill other places. Therefore, in one way the land is being recycled which also reduces the cost from purchasing or manufacturing materials to level the land.

Practicing this method can be very difficult because it needs more equipment like bulldozers, backhoes, loaders and compactors. There are just the machinery but the actual process of levelling the land takes time and hard work. There should be no mistakes of numbers in the total volumes obtained.
